Inquiry can be independent/guided. It is researching into a topic/concept of interest. Involves lots of skills such as self management, research, reading, key competencies, collaboration, etc. It gives learner ownership of what they are learning. Ideally students should be self motivated during their inquiry.
ALL is assisting students who are nearly at standard to get to standard.
Inquiry is about diving deeper into a topic, allowing students to fully understand all aspects of areas which they find interesting.

- ALL: Extra writing time for children who need an extra push and support to close the gaps in knowledge. ALL is to be conducted on top of regular classroom instruction.
- Inquiry: Answering, discussing, researching and presenting ideas/information. Generally, inquiry in the classroom is students led - their wonderings.
Inquiry is exploring a part of a topic more indepth and discovering the answers to the questions asked by the students, it also uses a range of information resources and can be shared in a variety of ways.

Inquiry is the official and unofficial learning journeys we go on as educators - led by specific data and motivated by the desire to help our learners and improve our teaching.
The Spiral of Inquiry is the ongoing and ever circling nature of ongoing learning, improvement and development.
Inquiry is allowing children to come up with their own questions to research. Children question, research, problem solve, collaborate, share, present, reflect and finish with where to next.....Some children can work quite independently and others need a lot of support from the teacher.
